Nursing & Medicine

Plan a nursing, medical or healthcare career

In healthcare your qualification has to be recognised twice: by the university that trains you, and by the regulator that licenses you to practise. SSBE helps you choose a course and a country with both in view.

Why healthcare needs a different kind of plan

For most courses, getting admitted is the hard part. In nursing and medicine it is only the first part. Where you can work afterwards depends on whether that country's regulator accepts your degree, your clinical hours and your English, and those rules are set long before you apply.

So we start from where you want to practise and work backwards: which regulator you will face, what it expects, and which courses and countries actually lead there.

What we cover

Nursing

BSc and MSc Nursing, and registered nurses planning to work abroad. We map the registration route for the country before you commit to it.

Medicine

MBBS abroad, chosen against the rules India's National Medical Commission sets for anyone who wants to practise here afterwards.

Allied health

Physiotherapy, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Science, Radiology, Occupational Therapy and Public Health.

English for healthcare

IELTS and OET preparation at the level nursing and medical regulators ask for, taught at our Coimbatore centre and online.

Who registers nurses where

The regulator, not the university, decides whether you can work as a nurse. These are the bodies you would deal with in the countries students ask us about most.

CountryWho registers nursesWhat it usually involves
United KingdomNursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)A computer-based theory test (CBT) and a practical exam (OSCE), plus English at the NMC's required level.
AustraliaNursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, through AhpraAssessment of your qualification. Many internationally qualified nurses sit the NCLEX-RN and an OSCE.
CanadaNNAS, then the provincial regulatorNNAS assesses your education; the province's nursing college sets the rest, usually including the NCLEX-RN.
New ZealandNursing Council of New ZealandAssessment of your qualification, then a competence assessment or OSCE.
GermanyThe recognition authority of each federal stateRecognition of your qualification (Anerkennung), German usually at B1 to B2, sometimes an adaptation course.
IrelandNursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)Recognition of your qualification, sometimes an adaptation period or aptitude test.

Regulators update their rules. We check the current requirements with you during counselling, before you choose a course.

Practising in India after an MBBS abroad

If you plan to come back and practise in India, the course you choose abroad has to meet the rules of the National Medical Commission (NMC). Choosing a university that does not is the most expensive mistake in this field, and it cannot be fixed after you graduate.

  • The NMC's Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, 2021 set the conditions a foreign medical degree must meet.
  • They include a minimum course length of 54 months, a 12-month internship at the same university abroad, and teaching in English.
  • You then clear India's licensing exam, the FMGE (due to be replaced by NExT), and complete a supervised internship in India before you can register and practise.

Questions students ask

Can I work as a nurse abroad with an Indian BSc Nursing?
Usually yes, once you register with that country's nursing regulator. It assesses your qualification and your English, and some countries also require an exam such as the NCLEX-RN or a practical OSCE.
Should nurses take OET or IELTS?
Most nursing regulators accept both. OET is built around healthcare scenarios, which many nurses find easier to relate to. We look at your target country and your strengths before recommending one.
Can I practise in India after studying MBBS abroad?
Yes, if your course meets the National Medical Commission's rules and you then clear the licensing exam and complete the required internship in India. Check the university against those rules before you apply, not after.
Do you help with allied health courses as well?
Yes. Physiotherapy, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Science, Radiology, Occupational Therapy and Public Health all have their own registration routes, and we plan for them the same way.
